Saguaro
(Pron: Sa-wáh-ro) Tucson, Arizona
| This prince of our desert can live for 200 years. The
sweet saguaro fruit was a staple for native peoples, and its wooden skeletal
system was used for construction. Owls and doves nest in holes burrowed by gila
woodpeckers, looking for bugs. In the Sonoran Desert, the saguaro is life.
