HILDY's Comments The spirit of the reservation lives in this first movie ever made by
an all-Indian crew (and based on the great writing of Sherman Alexie). It is
poignant and funny all at once, with great characters that stick in your mind.
I frequently smile, picturing Thomas and his grandmother giggling quietly over
dinner. After seeing Smoke Signals, you will want to read everything Sherman
Alexie has written (see our book list for more).

DIMITRI's Comments Based on everything I've learned from our work in Indian Country,
this is about as accurate an account of life on the reservation as you will
find anywhere on film. It is funny and poignant, a good story told well. And
really, it would not be at all surprising to find a car that only drives in
reverse. |
