Hildy's tastes require two things from a
movie: 1) That she feel good when it's over and 2) That on the way to that
happy ending, she not have to witness man's inhumanity to man, especially not
in a personal way. If she reads the paper every day and works with social
service agencies for a living, she figures she deserves to see the good side of
life in her off-hours.

 Dimitri won regional film-making
competitions in high school. And so he chooses his favorites from that
insider's view of what it takes for a film to be truly great, rather than
merely entertaining (the best do both!). Many of his picks will have been
groundbreaking at the time, or they are directed with incredible panache. They
are always interesting and entertaining, and they stand the test of
time.

Imagine directing the passion of your
teenager towards the fact that the world needs them! We have found no better
way to get our kids thinking than a topical movie, directed and acted first to
be a good movie, and then to provide a message. Many of these have become their
favorites, because the issues are real and powerful, and the movies themselves
terrific.
